| As
a charitable, non profit making organisation, Saint
John of God Menni Services relies on monies from the
Health Service Executive and also donations to improve
the standard of the service we provide to children and
adults with intellectual disabilities from South West
Dublin. |
| We
here in Menni Services are constantly trying to upgrade
and improve the quality and standard of services we
offer and also the premises where we offer our service
programmes. |
| In
2006 it was agreed to hold our Inaugural Black Tie Masked
Ball in Jury’s Hotel, Ballsbridge where 380 people
attended and helped to raise monies to buy new transport
vehicles for our Day Services. We raised €56,000
on the night and were able to purchase 3 new buses which
are used to transport the children and adults in our
day services to various different events within the
local community. |
In
2007 money was needed to open a new Drop in Club facility
for adults. This is a complimentary/ back-up service
for individuals who are working on a part time basis
in mainstream supported employment positions.
The focus of the programme is building the capacity
of the individual and the full integration of the individual
into mainstream activities and their own community.
The Service found a perfect location in Walkinstown
but needed to raise money to renovate and refurbish
the facilities to make them accessible for our Drop
in Club attendees. At the Black Tie Ball in October
2007 were 560 people attended in The Burlington Hotel,
we raised a fantastic €89,000 and the Drop In Club
opened in early 2008. |

In
October 2008 our 3rd Annual Black Tie Ball was held
in The Four Seasons Hotel, Ballsbridge where 360 people
attended and we raised €75,000. All monies
raised will go towards the successful move of our Children’s
Respite in Tallaght to Islandbridge where a facility
will be refurbished to accommodate the children’s
specific needs. At Islandbridge we have the beautiful
Memorial Park and a super playground on site which is
far more suitable than the current facilities that are
available on the Tallaght site. |
